Choose your soup cooking method

Heat the oven to 425°F.

Method 1: Empty the package of French onion soup into a saucepan. Set the heat to medium, bring the soup to a gentle simmer, and heat for 6 to 8 minutes, or until fully heated through.

Method 2: Do not cut open the package of French onion soup. Fill a saucepan two-thirds full with water, place it onto the stovetop, and set the heat to medium. Bring the water to a gentle simmer. Place the package of soup into the water and heat for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the soup is fully heated through.

Meanwhile, prepare the cheesy crostini.

Make the crostini

  • Slice the demi-baguette crosswise into ¼-inch-thick rounds.
  • Prepare a baking sheet: Line with aluminum foil and lightly grease.

Place the sliced rounds onto the prepared baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Place into the oven for 5 minutes, or until lightly toasted. Carefully remove the baking sheet and generously top the toasts with the cheddar and Gruyere blend. Return to the oven for 2 to 3 more minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Serve

Serve the soup topped with the cheesy crostini.
