The July 4th Grill Box

Fire up a festive July 4th cookout without the fuss. Our special box keeps prep quick and flavors big, so you can spend more time with family and friends. Build premium burgers and juicy brats on toasted brioche buns, customize them with classic fixings and bold sauces, then serve with crisp tahini–green goddess slaw, lemony grilled asparagus with herb butter, and creamy heat-and-eat mac and cheese.

Ingredients: BURGERS, BRATS, & BUNS - 4 chuck and ribeye blend hamburgers (about ¼ pound each), 2 bratwurst sausages (about ¼ pound each, contains pork and spices), 4 brioche hamburger buns, 4 brioche hot dog buns. THE FIXINGS - 1 head organic butter or other lettuce, 1 organic beefsteak or other tomato, 1 organic red onion, 4 slices sharp cheddar, Sunbasket honey-mustard harissa (roasted red pepper - honey - whole grain mustard - harissa powder - ground cumin - ground coriander - lemon juice - granulated garlic - kosher salt), Sunbasket rémoulade (mayo - shallot-garlic confit - ketchup - celery - lemon juice - Dijon mustard - parsley - horseradish - scallions - kosher salt - black pepper - cayenne), ¼ pound pickles. GREEN GODDESS CABBAGE SLAW - ½ pound organic shredded cabbage slaw, 3 organic scallions, 2 or 3 organic radishes (about 2 ounces total), 4 or 5 sprigs organic fresh cilantro, Sunbasket tahini goddess dressing (tahini - scallions - lemon juice - apple cider vinegar - parsley - garlic - kosher salt - dried dill), Sunbasket pumpkin seed dukkah (pumpkin seeds - sesame seeds - coriander - cumin - kosher salt - black pepper). GRILLED ASPARAGUS WITH LEMON-GARLIC HERB BUTTER - 1 pound organic asparagus, 2 ounces Italian cheese blend. CLASSIC MAC & CHEESE - Cooked elbow macaroni, 1 organic lemon, ¼ cup lemon-garlic herb butter, Shredded cheddar cheese, Cheese sauce (whole milk - shredded cheddar - shredded Gruyère - Parmesan cheese - sodium citrate).

Get Started

  • Gather your supplies: foil, paper towels, instant-read thermometer, cutting board, standard kitchen utensils, 3 serving platters, serving bowl, salad bowl, small microwave-safe bowl, salt, pepper, and cooking oil.
  • Carefully read through the entire recipe.
  • Allow approximately 20-25 min of prep time and 20-30 min of cook time.
  • Preheat your grill to medium (350°F) & lightly grease.
  • Rinse your fresh produce and gently pat dry.

Prep

  • Pull off the largest lettuce leaves for the burgers. Reserve the rest for another use.
  • Slice the tomato into rounds.
  • Peel the onion and slice into ¼-inch-thick rings.
  • Arrange the lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheddar cheese slices on a serving platter. Fill three small bowls with the rémoulade sauce, honey-mustard harissa sauce, and the pickles.

  • Thinly slice the green onions and radishes. 
  • Roughly chop the cilantro leaves and finely chop the stems.
  • In a salad bowl, toss the shredded cabbage slaw with the green onions, radishes, cilantro, half of the pumpkin seed dukkah, and half of the tahini–green goddess dressing. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and more dressing as desired. Garnish with as much of the remaining dukkah as you like.

  • Trim the asparagus.
  • Zest the lemon, then cut it into wedges.

Cook

Burgers & Brats

  • Season the burgers with salt and pepper. Pat the brats dry with a paper towel, then prick each in a few places with a fork.
  • Grill the burgers and brats over direct heat, uncovered, for 4-5 min, then flip and move to indirect heat and close the lid. Cook the burgers for 3-5 more min and the brats for 5-6 more min. (If you want melted cheddar cheese, add it the last 1-2 min of cooking.) Transfer to a serving platter and cover with foil.

Mac & Cheese

  • While the burgers and brats are cooking, follow the directions on the packages to heat the mac and cheese in the microwave. Transfer to a serving bowl and stir to combine. Cover with foil.

Asparagus

  • After the burgers and brats are finished, grill the asparagus over direct heat, uncovered, for 5-7 min, or until bright green and tender, turning occasionally to lightly char on all sides.
  • Meanwhile, empty the lemon-garlic herb butter into a small bowl. Cover with a damp paper towel and microwave in 10-sec increments until melted. Stir in the lemon zest and half of the lemon juice (or more as desired) until well combined.
  • Arrange the grilled asparagus on a serving platter and drizzle with the melted butter. Season to taste with salt and pepper and toss until well coated. Garnish with the Italian cheese blend. Cover with foil.

Buns

  • After cooking the asparagus, toast the brioche buns (if desired) on the grill over indirect heat for 2-4 min, or until golden brown. Transfer to the serving platter with the burgers and brats.

Serve

  • Arrange the serving platters and bowls on the table. Remove the foil and let everyone customize their plates as desired.
