Make an Accordion Book
An accordion book stands on its edge to show an assortment of your favorite things. You can draw or write a story in each panel, or make cut-outs with construction paper to fill the pages. Here, we pasted in our favorite fruit and vegetables.
1 piece (9 x 12 inch) construction paper
1 sheet thin cardboard (from a notepad or cereal box), cut into squares (3 x 5 inches each)
Additional sheets of construction paper, optional
Markers or colored pencils, optional
1. Make the accordion pages
Fold the paper in half from top to bottom, to make a strong crease and then unfold. Fold the right and left sides of the paper in half so that the two halves meet in the center. Fold the paper in half from top to bottom again and then in half from left to right. When you unfold the paper there should be eight squares.
Cut vertically up the center fold until just before you reach the last square. Then fold the remaining two squares together along the center crease to make the long accordion shape. Glue those two squares together.
2. Attach the cover
To attach the accordion to the covers, glue the cardboard to each end of the accordion.
3. Design the book
Use the additional construction paper to make shapes the same dimensions of the pages and glue them to each panel. Alternatively, draw or write on each panel.
4. Decorate the cover
Using construction paper, decorate the cover of the book with letter cut-outs to give the accordion book a title. Otherwise, glue rectangular boxes cut out from construction paper to the cover and write the title of book in marker or colored pencil on the cut-outs.

Gourd have mercy, those bins of winter squash at the market get us everytime. The crazy shapes, the incredible colors, we could look at them all day. But of course, what we really want to do is eat them. With their sweet-but-not-too-sweet flavor and dense flesh, hard-shelled squash are incredibly versatile.Read more
